Blinded by the Light
The clock was turned back 1 hour on the first Sunday in November, so it was already dark at around 5:30 PM on the second Sunday. Tia and Benny didn't feel like to stop by Whole Foods to grab some milk, so Ceci went in herself while we were relaxing in the Jeep at parking. Shortly after I saw her coming out with the bags, I started the engine, so the story began...
Ceci hopped in and told me the driver facing me had to cover her eyes the moment my lights turned on. Oh she must be blined by the low beam lights and fog lights since my Jeep is lifted on 35"s. I felt a bit sorry.
Revved up like a deuce
Recently, a forum member posted a Youtube music video as he replied to another member's Jeep with two big offroad lights mounted to the front bumper stinger, joking "I would hate to be the one that cuts you off at night". And the song is "Blinded by the Light" by British rock band Manfred Mann's Earth Band. This was the first time I ever knew this band, so I listened to this 7-minute long music and it was quite nice.
One of the Youtube comments noted this song was originally written by Bruce Springsteen, that really caught my attention. Because he's my favorite voice in "We Are the World" (a charity single recorded by the supergroup USA for Africa in 1985). Bruce wrote this song back in 1973, his original lyrics were "cut loose like a deuce". Manfred Mann's Earth Band made a cover in 1977 and changed it to "revved up like a deuce". Their cover reached number one on the Billboard Hot 100 in the US. The word "deuce" refers to the 1932 Ford Deuce Coupe that is popular into the 1970s as a hot rod car.
Self-defense with a flshlight
I've been teaching my wife and kids that a tactical flashlight with powerful and bright output (1800 lumens the one I have) can be used as a self-defense device, to blind the offender/attacker temporarily, which may create a good opportunity to leave a potentially dangerous situation. It can also be combined with other weapons when a deadly force becomes necessary.
